They named her Life, a name that tells the story of an amazing mother who cared more about her child than she did herself. Carrie DeKlyen is a 37-year-old mother of six. Life is her sixth, a child she will most likely never get to meet.
Carrie made a tough decision that most moms would make. Of course, it’s a very tough decision for a mother to make because a mother is nurturing and has a natural instinct to raise their children in the best possible way. So when it came to choosing between chemotherapy and Life, she chose her daughter Life.
Carrie has a glioblastoma. She was diagnosed with it in April. It’s a tumor that affects the brain and spinal cord. But Carrie didn’t want the chemotherapy to hurt her child.
Carrie With Three Of Her Babies And Nick
Her husband Nick DeKlyen recalls the conversation. “The doctor said if you don’t terminate this baby, Carrie, you will die!”
Nick looked at Carrie, “What do you want to do?” That’s when Carrie made a very tough call.
She looked at Nick and said, “We’re keeping it.”
Carrie suffered a stroke after her fourth brain surgery and she’s been in a coma since. They induced labor and Life was brought into this world. The family named her and it’s a touching name for the circumstances under which she was born.
Nick With The Love Of His Life
Carrie has now been taken off of life support. Her family reported that they tried to keep all of their posts about her positive. But somewhere along the line, the truth has to be told. She is not responding to anything, not even pain.
Nick will have the tough job of raising his kids on his own. But he’s confident he can do it. He holds onto his faith that he’ll see Carrie again. If not in this life, “After my time is up I’ll be with her again in Heaven.” Sometimes, faith that strong is what gets people through.
