There seems to be no limit to what a mother can do for her child. They seem to be able to turn into Superwomen and accomplish the most outrageous feats. What this mother did during Hurricane Irma is nothing short of extraordinary.
Cara Kesling and her husband were attempting to leave the Florida Keys during the hurricane. But there was something holding her back. She was pregnant. Not only was she pregnant, but she was going into labor.
She Chose The Perfect Baby Name
She did attempt to call 911. In fact, she made the call twice. But out of 41 calls the dispatchers at 911 received that day, they were only able to answer three calls. Cara was not going to receive any help from paramedics that day. But they had an idea.
They conference called her and talked her through it. She was on the phone getting lessons about giving birth and she was able to do it. Assistant Fire Chief Eloy Garcia explains, “We weren’t able to respond. So she delivered the placenta, also. Dispatch told her how to tie it off. She’s stable at home. We made contact with the assistant medical director here. Talked things through.”
Already Doing Selfies Like A Pro
Mothers can do amazing things. But being in labor, being in that much pain, and being able to listen to instructions over the phone is phenomenal. As the Assistant Fire Chief said, she was even able to tie off the placenta on her own.
When emergency vehicles had a clear shot, they got Cara to the hospital. Cara decided that through all that, she would name her baby Nayiri Storm. What a fitting name for the baby brought into the world during a hurricane.
