When Katy Perry got her hair cut short, millions of people asked why. Of course, fans don’t normally ask. They think it’s a fashion choice. But they asked this time. The thing is, there is a reason.
Katy Perry was born Katheryn Hudson in a very Christian home. Both of her parents are pastors and she grew up with strict regulations. The entire secular world was banned from the home including mainstream music. In fact, she started out trying to establish her career in gospel music.
One Day, She Broke Free
It all changed when one day, she broke away from all that. She not only left her home in Santa Barbara and moved to Los Angeles where she pursued her music career. Eventually, she broke away from gospel music too, and that became the birth of the Katy Perry everyone knows and loves today.
During an interview with Michael Cragg of The Guardian, Katy admits, “I didn’t want to be Katheryn Hudson. I hated that, it was too scary for me, so I decided to be someone else.” That’s when Katy Perry was created, a persona that makes Katheryn capable of being a pop star in front of huge audiences, something that would shake the foundation of most people.
It’s Something Deeper Than A Fashion Statement
But now, Katy Perry is having other issues. Her four-day live stream on Youtube of everything she does throughout the day took viewers into a therapy session where she came clean about her deepest feelings. It was a very heartbreaking moment. Her strength and vulnerability were both revealed at the same time. But one thing that is confusing fans is that she no longer wants to be Katy Perry.
“I so badly want to be Katheryn Hudson that I don’t even want to look like Katy Perry anymore sometimes, and that is a little bit of why I cut my hair,” she stated.
That scratches the surface. But her therapy session with Siri Sat Nam Singh goes even deeper. She’s going to need the support of her fans now more than ever.
