All married or engaged women have experienced, at least once, the heart-stopping terror of thinking you’ve lost your ring. It’s truly terrifying, especially having to go through the agonizing process of retracing your steps in an attempt to recover that precious item. Some women are lucky, while others must simply resign themselves to their awful fate…shell out another $3,000 for a new one or settle for a cheap knockoff.
Well, an 84-year-old woman had that same experience in September of 2004 while tending to her garden at her home in Alberta, Canada.
Mary Grams opened up to Global News about the incident saying, “I went to the garden for something and I saw this long weed. For some reason, I picked it up and it must have caught on something and pulled [the ring] off.” As any woman would then do, she cried “for days” and searched tirelessly, only to eventually purchase a new ring and pray her husband didn’t notice. According to the Global News report, he did not.
But, our story has a happy ending. Today, almost 13 years later, Gram’s son Brian and his wife live on her old property, tend to that very same garden, and recently found her missing ring!
“My wife was digging carrots for supper, and I guess she came up with a carrot that had something on it,” Brian said.
Yes, this is in fact a carrot wearing a wedding ring!
Sadly, Gram’s husband, Norman, passed away five years ago and was unable to witness this happy reunion, but she is determined not to let anything happen to it again. “Anything I do outside, I’m going to take it off and it’s going to stay,” she said.
