Ever wake up from an in-flight nap with red, dry eyes and eyeliner smeared down to your temple? Your hair is tousled and filled with static, and you’re hoping no one noticed that you drooled on the arm of your sweatshirt.

Victoria’s Secret model, Miranda Kerr, is no stranger to long flights to both domestic and international destinations. So it is only fitting that we get the inside scoop on traveling beauty tips from her. These tips are strictly meant for flying on planes, and will save you from looking like a monster after that afternoon flight from Miami to New York.

Meditate

“To me, meditation is so important,” Kerr said. “When you’re running around all the time and constantly busy, I find it’s so helpful to take some moments for yourself and just breathe. Then, it makes you more prepared to take on whatever you’re doing,” she added. This is crucial to relax, especially while traveling. It’s important to step away from technology. You don’t have much of a choice in keeping your phone on (and not in “Airplane Mode”) during a flight, so it’s a perfect time to be alone with your thoughts.

Take Off Your Makeup

“I think it’s really important to take your makeup off when you’re on the plane,” she said, adding, “I like to mist my face with lavender or rose if I want to relax and unwind.” If you don’t remove your makeup at home before heading to the airport, bring a makeup wipe with you and use it in the airport bathroom. Mist your face with some facial spray. We are a fan of coconut ones!

Put On Essential Oils

This bombshell beauty uses Kora Organics Noni Glow Face Balm, from her own skincare and beauty line. It is made of organic noni extracts, rosehip oil, and coconut oil. She claims skin can get easily dried out on long flights, and it’s best to keep it hydrated.

Take Care Of The Hair

“I like to let my hair air-dry. I also like to get head massages, because it really rejuvenates the scalp,” she said, adding, “Sometimes I put coconut oil in my hair, just on the ends overnight. That’s a really good treatment. I once used olive oil, but coconut oil smells much better.” She is right on that! Coconut oil has a better fragrance to it than olive oil. It’s great to use some on the ends of your hair to prevent dry ends and breakage. Try not to put oil by your scalp; your hair will just appear greasy and dirty.

Get Some Rest

Kerr knows that the second she lands, it’s time for business. She has to go straight to work and off to a photoshoot. Therefore, she tries to get some sleep on the plane whenever she can. A couple ways that she does this are avoiding any alcohol in-flight, using a silk eye mask, and using a cashmere wrap.
