Scout Larson, a 3-year-old girl, is becoming Instafamous for recreating photographs of powerful, iconic women in pop culture. Larson and her mother decided to do the replicas as a tribute to Larson’s grandmother, who battled and won her fight with cancer. They want to spread the message of perseverance and strength, specifically through tough, female role models that we all know and love. Scout’s Instagram attracts over 41,000 followers thanks to the #scoutstolemystyle portraits and the craze that came with them. Here are some of the idols and their most empowering quotes (that make us feel just like Wonder Woman):

Emma Watson

“If I asked a young boy what superhero they looked up to, I feel a lot fewer would say a female one or would ever use an example of a female one, than in reverse, which is a shame. We need to live in a culture that values and respects and looks up to and idolizes women as much as men.”

Betty White

“If you’re walking with your lady on the sidewalk, I still like to see a man walking street-side, to protect the lady from traffic. I grew up with that, and I hate to see something like that get lost. I still like to see that a man opens the door. I like those touches of chivalry that are fast disappearing.”

Adele

“I think I remind everyone of themselves. Not saying everyone is my size, but it’s relatable because I’m not perfect, and I think a lot of people are portrayed as perfect, unreachable, and untouchable.”

Zooey Deschanel

“If you feel like dressing like a girl, there’s nothing wrong with that. I don’t know why femininity should be associated with weakness. Women should be free to express who they are without thinking, ‘I need to act like a man,’ or ‘I need to tone it down to be successful.’ That’s a good way to keep women down.”

Brie Larson

“Maybe you’re not perfect, but you’re willing to actually look at yourself and take some kind of accountability. That’s a change. It might not mean that you can turn everything around, but I think there’s something incredibly hopeful about that.”

Ellen DeGeneres

“Be open to learning new lessons, even if they contradicted the lessons you learned yesterday.”

Mindy Kaling

“People do not get scared when you’re failing. It calms them. But when you’re winning, it makes them feel like they’re losing or, worse yet, that maybe they should’ve tried to do something too, but now it’s too late. And since they didn’t, they want to stop you. You can’t let them.”

Meryl Streep

“True freedom is understanding that we have a choice in who and what we allow to have power over us.”

Frida Kahlo

“I used to think I was the strangest person in the world but then I thought there are so many people in the world, there must be someone just like me who feels bizarre and flawed in the same ways I do. I would imagine her, and imagine that she must be out there thinking of me, too. Well, I hope that if you are out there and read this and know that, yes, it’s true I’m here, and I’m just as strange as you.”

These photographs and the women represented in them remind us that it is beautiful and extraordinary to be eccentric, different, and strong. They teach us to devote ourselves to something that gives us purpose and meaning. They teach us to choose growth.
